What is Botox?

Botox is a type of botulinum toxin, a neurotoxic protein that is used in cosmetic procedures to temporarily paralyze muscles. It is commonly injected into areas of the face to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, particularly around the forehead, eyes (crow's feet), and between the eyebrows. The treatment works by blocking the signals from the nerves to the muscles, preventing them from contracting and allowing the skin to appear smoother and more youthful. Results typically last for three to six months, after which repeat treatments are required to maintain the effect.

Different Types of Neurotoxin

  • Botox: The most widely known brand, effective for various cosmetic and medical uses. Results typically last 3-4 months.

  • Dysport: Has a slightly different formulation that allows for quicker diffusion, making it ideal for larger areas. Effects last around 3-5 months.

  • Xeomin: A "naked" form of botulinum toxin that lacks accessory proteins, possibly reducing the risk of developing resistance. Duration is similar to Botox, lasting about 3-4 months.

  • Jeuveau: Specifically marketed for aesthetic purposes, offering a similar potency to Botox and may have a quicker onset. Effects last around 3-4 months.

  • Daxxify: A newer option that has shown longer-lasting effects, potentially lasting up to 6 months or more, making it appealing for those looking for extended results.
