What is Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Laser skin resurfacing is a cosmetic procedure that uses focused laser light to improve the texture, tone, and overall appearance of the skin. The treatment works by removing the outer layers of damaged skin (ablative resurfacing) or stimulating collagen production in deeper layers without removing the top layer (non-ablative resurfacing). This procedure is effective for reducing wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage, and uneven skin pigmentation, promoting a smoother and more youthful complexion.

Different Types of Laser Resurfacing
-
Ablative Lasers: These lasers remove the outer layers of skin, promoting new skin growth. Examples include CO2 lasers and Erbium YAG lasers, which are effective for deep wrinkles and significant skin texture issues. Must be done under anesthesia.
-
Non-Ablative Lasers: These lasers penetrate the skin without removing the outer layer, stimulating collagen production and tightening the skin. Examples include fractional lasers and Nd:YAG lasers, which are used for mild skin issues and overall rejuvenation.
-
Fractional Lasers: These can be both ablative and non-ablative, targeting only a fraction of the skin at a time, allowing for quicker recovery while still effectively treating wrinkles, scars, and pigmentation.
-
Pulsed Dye Lasers: These are primarily used for vascular lesions and can improve skin tone and redness while being less aggressive on the skin.
